Questions about blockchain and wallets

Hey all, apologies for the following set of noob questions, also if any of these questions have been answered elsewhere (I also had to start a new reddit account just for this as lost access to old one due to general poor life organisation...so it begins well)
I set up a blockchain account yesterday and bought 150e of bitcoin, all seems well exceot i'm not receiving the loging authorisation emails. I've checked the spam, filters, added BC as a contact etc and started a ticket with blockchain. I've read around a fewforums and this seems to be a common issue with them and I don't want to have to go through this everytime I want to logon.
So does anyone know a way of maing this not happen all the time?
Also from what I'm reading it seems to be better to have a personal wallet. Can anyone recommend one which is easy to use and to which I can easily transfer y blockchain funds? Will I have to continue buying bitcoin through bc or can we buy directly through the wallet softwre (yes I know total noob question but hey). Also if I loose or break my laptop or phone would this mean loosing access to my personal wallet?

Thanks in advance for your answers! :-D

ExchangeDefender hacked?

I just received one of those "we know your password and we have naked vids, yada yada" emails demanding $1466 in bitcoin. Sadly, the password they have is for ExchangeDefender message encryption. One of my vendors provided the logon so I could transact with them securely. The password is unique to this account, i.e. not used anywhere else.

Suffice it to say, it appears ExchangeDefender's user database has been compromised and the emails and passwords are available on the dark web.

Lost 14TB in Ransomware attack

1) Don't have RDP accessible outwards (i was using a custom port, didnt help)
2) Have an annoyingly difficult password that is hard to bruteforce
3) If you have several Windows accounts, don't assign easy passwords because you are lazy
4) If you ju insist to have RDP accessible use something like RDP Defender
5) If you use VPN to gain access to your server remotely, don't also have RDP accessible (worst one, i already use VPN for everything but kept the RDP port open 'just in case'...)
6) Use a VPN with token-auth
7) Use a VPN with token-auth
8) Use a VPN with token-auth
Bonus tip : don't use a password that might listed on https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Was logged onto the machine from work, rebooted due to updates, could not logon. After a few moments it told me i had to change password to gain access - knew something was up. Came home, changed password - greeted with a nice splash screen demanding a ransom in bitcoin and to e-mail them, 5000$ or everything's gone.
Dharma Ransomware, .combo variant, no master keys available yet.
Luckily anthing really important was backuped elsewhere, just lost media. Glad i upgraded to 500/500 recently so it should not take that long to source the "vacation movies" again.

Partner got random emall

Hi,
My partner got a ransom email containing a password he doesn't use for much and asking for bitcoin. He has since changed the passwords he thinks it was used for. We checked that pwned site for breaches, for which a few came up including a paste, so this is the main culprit I assume?
However, he hasn't been able to reset his email (Hotmail) password, the password of which he isn't sure as he has everything on auto logon. He had to request a change of security info because he didn't have the alternate email account anymore and this takes 1 month (???).
So he's gonna get in touch with Microsoft to get that sorted.
But because of this I need to know if changing passwords is gonna be enough or whether I should be worried about having malware or ransomware on my pc.
Cheers
PS. This is a cap of the email https://i.imgur.com/SZJ5ZLL.jpg

Regaining anonymity. Is it possible?

So I've been active on the internet since its beginning. All these years I've used the same screen name across the board. Email, youtube, logons, untold message boards & forums covering all my interests and occupation, news reports - articles comments sections, thousands of posts, you name it. STUPID, I KNOW!
Until recently, I never had much concern, but now that I've been exploring the rabbit hole of cryptocurrencies, for which I also have thoroughly used this ubiquitous screen name across all the channels, slack groups, exchange troll boards, what-not. I'm concerned should crypto rise by orders of magnitude I've exposed myself to unnecessary risk. It would not be hard for example to google my old username and figure out my home address. This concerns me now greatly.
Do any bitcoin investors/users/enthusiasts have thoughts or advice on how I might begin to repair this mess. Obviously the first place to start is to stop using the old name, and going forward, to use different names in each channel. But what about the existing data that will never go away? I'm not holding out much hope for a viable answer, but just incase I'm missing something, I thought I'd ask. --Thank you.

Strange device on school network

I was using Fing to browse some devices on my school's network because I was bored and I came across a Raspberry Pi. I thought this was peculiar because one: all the students had left, so it wasn't a student device, two: because the school primarily runs all their services off google and Windows Server, there were no Linux/Raspberry Pi devices used. I look further and the device reports over zeroconf/Bonjour that it's name is "TG-REVGEN" I scan services and find it's running SSH, SFTP, and VNC. I connect over all three with the default "pi" "raspberry" logon for Raspberry Pi, but sadly none work. Over VNC, there's a password hint, which I found quite strange. It's: "Guest Harvard Vega. Giraffe April welcome." I attempt a connection externally but it doesn't work. It most likely isn't the tech department's because why would it be wireless when then can easily wire it?
I make this post because it has me quite interested. My current theory is that either a teacher or student secretly set up a bitcoin USB miner with a raspberry pi, hence REVGEN (revenue generation).
Any ideas?

PDQ Deploy packs v41.0 (2016-05-15) // AQ Edition

This is v41.0 (v40.0, v39.0, v38.0, etc...) of our PDQ installers and includes all installers from the previous package with old versions removed.
All packages:
  1. install silently and don't place desktop or quicklaunch shortcuts
  2. disable every auto-update, nag popup and stat-collection feature I can find
  3. work with the free or paid version of PDQ Deploy, but don't require either - each package can run standalone (e.g. from a thumb drive) or pushed with SCCM/GPO/etc if desired

Download

Primary method: Plug one of these keys into BT Sync to pull down that repository:
- BTRSRPF7Y3VWFRBG64VUDGP7WIIVNTR4Q (Installer Packages, roughly 1.84 GB) - BMHHALGV7WLNSAPIPYDP5DU3NDNSM5XNC (WSUS Offline updates, roughly 11.20 GB)
  1. Make sure the settings for your Sync folder look like this (or this if you're on v1.3.x). Specifically you need to enable DHT.
  2. Import all .XML files from the \job files directory into PDQ deploy (It should look roughly like this after you've imported them).
  3. Copy all files from the \repository directory to wherever your repository is.
  4. All jobs reference PDQ's $(Repository) variable, so as long as you've set that in preferences you're golden.
Alternate method: (static pack)
Mirror HTTPS HTTP Location Host
Official link link US-NY SGC-Hosting
#1 link link FR mxmod
#2 --- link DE repa82
Tertiary method: (source code)
The Github page contains all the scripts and wrapper files used in this pack (they're mostly boring batch files). Check it out if you want to see the code without downloading the full binary pack, or just steal them for your own use. Note that downloading from Github directly won't work - you need the full binary pack in order to just plug them in and start working.

Package Notes:

  1. Read the notes in PDQ for each package, they explain what it does. Basically, most packages use a .bat file to accomplish multi-step installations with the free version of PDQ. You can edit the batch files to see what they do; most of them just delete "All Users" desktop icons and stuff like that. changelog-v##-updated-.txt has version and release history information.
  2. Thunderbird:
    • Our customized Thunderbird uses a global config file stored on a network share. This lets us change Thunderbird settings en masse if necessary. By default the clients are configured to check for updates to the config every 120 minutes.
    • You can change the location of the config, change the update frequency, OR disable the behavior entirely by tweaking the file thunderbird-custom-settings.js.
    • A copy of the config file is in the Thunderbird directory and is called thunderbird-global-settings.js
    • If you don't want any customizations, just edit Thunderbird's .bat file and comment out all the lines except for the one that installs Thunderbird.
  3. Microsoft Offline Updates - built using the excellent WSUS Offline tool. Please donate to them if you can, their team does excellent work.

Integrity

In the folder \integrity verification the file checksums.txt is signed with my PGP key (0x07d1490f82a211a2, pubkey included). You can use this to verify package integrity.

SYSTEM account creating users

I have an RDS server, standalone- no AD, publicly accessible (I know, I know, not my idea, I'm just the lump having to support it. I have requested numerous times to have a VPN setup, or at least lock it down to connections from the client primary WAN IP, but no, they refuse). Of course, like all publicly accessible RDS servers, it gets hammered with logon attempts.
Currently, there are only 3 administrative accounts on the system, all 3 of which have 20+ character passwords. This is recent, the client had close to 10 different users as admins at one point, with weak passwords, and this server has gotten hit/attacked numerous times.
Currently, I have this server about two or three times a week getting new users created on it, and the users are mining bitcoin, maxing out the CPU. I setup an alert to notify me each time an account is created and am keeping them cleaned up and limiting the impact, but is is a nuisance.
I have reviewed the logs and it is the SYSTEM account logged as the account creating these users... not one of the named administrative accounts.
I found a screenshare app installed and removed it and made sure it wasn't running any longer and all files associated with it were gone.
I have also ran several different scans on the system and found nothing, as well as checked for scheduled tasks/processes, etc. etc. trying to figure out how the SYSTEM account is creating users but haven't had any such luck.
Any thoughts and/or suggestions?

Frustrated as hell

I've been trying to buy Bitcoin for a month or so now on/off. I've seen the price constantly increase, yada yada...still here I am trying to buy. The issues I'm having:
  1. Coinbase rejecting my credit card for no reason and offering no reason. Dead end.
  2. btcmarkets using POLi who then want me to type my bank logon/password into their form (yeah, right!).
Where is a normal, sane place to buy Bitcoin that doesn't involve bullshit? Or is this just the norm for bitcoin in the current wild west?
Lil help? I just want to buy without fuss using a credit card or bank deposit.

Package Notes:

  1. Read the notes in PDQ for each package, they explain what it does. Basically, if there is a .bat file with a job, it makes some customizations.
Please donate to them if you can spare a couple bucks, their team does excellent work.

PDQ Deploy packs v39.0 (2016-01-22) // full refresh

This is v39.0 (v38.0, v37.0, v36.0, etc...) of our PDQ installers and includes all installers from the previous package with old versions removed.

Alternate method: (static pack; does not auto-update)

Darkweb Access Guide

Hi y'all,
A guide I've written here on how to access the darkweb. It is not illegal to use the encrypted browser Tor, to surf darkweb sites, obtain Bitcoins, or use encrypted messaging. So this is all completely legal and above board. What you choose to do with the following information is entirely up to you as an individual.
To access the darkweb, you need to download and install the encrypted brower Tor, to allow for secure, encrypted browsing. Tor projects your computer's IP address to a random server elsewhere in the world, making it incredibly hard to trace. There are regular security updates for Tor one can easily download on the opening page when they logon to it.
https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en
Then you will need to obtain some e-currency in the form of Bitcoin...also a very secure and stealthy/untraceable way of moving capital around. The infrastructure around Bitcoin has really come a long way in the last few years, and it is not hard to obtain. This would be recommended for UK people - a very quick, easy and reliable way of transferring £ - Bitcoin.
https://localbitcoins.com/
You may wish to access the darkweb marketplaces. A list of them along with url addresses is linked below, the page includes up to date ratings. AlphaBay and Dream Market are considered among the best.
https://darkwebnews.com/dark-web-market-list/
A clear, concise guide on how to securely access Dream Market can be found below.
https://darkwebnews.com/darkwebmarkets/dream-market/
Lastly, you'll need some form of encrypted messaging for communication and site access in some cases. Gpg4usb comes highly recommended. Below is a walk through guide to setting it up and using it. This webpage also features links to the marketplace urls and includes up to date ratings and reviews of the individual marketplaces.

Download link for gpg4usb:

It is up to your own discretion how you use this information.

Your daily bitcoin habits

Hi,
Everyday, I logon my computer, visit bitcoinmarkets, bitcoin, cryptocurrency and a few other websites I enjoy watching to get my daily/weekly bitcoin related news. But I am wondering how you guys get your news/information fixes?
What brings you to theses websites? Do you like how the information is displayed? What are your 5 favorites bitcoin related sources? What are your 5 favorites bitcoin related charts?
For me:
What brings you to theses websites? I like to come on reddit because I want to read comments from people related to each news, I like the input from people.
Do you like how the information is displayed? Soso, the view on reddit isn't the best but it works.
What are your 5 favorites bitcoin related sources? bitcoin, cryptocurrency, bitcoinmarkets daily post, cryptocoin news and coindesk.
What are your 5 favorites bitcoin related charts? I enjoy this new website coinsight.co/, also the indispensable bitcoinwisdom.com for the front page, winkdex.com for the all-in-one price formula average, worldcoinindex.com/ for the graph of each coins and at last btccharts.com because i can arrange my charts the way i want, even if i dont have all the data i want, i can move it to my personal needs.
So what about you?

Bitpanda (formally Coinimal) - Missing btc? What do you think of this? It looks very suspect to me.

RESOLVED (Kinda): So a few days ago, I transferred my btc from another wallet into my bit panda wallet. I was awaiting for it to be approved by my 1st wallet. all good so far. It was approved and the bitcoin sent. They arrived in my bit panda wallet. When i next logon to Bitpanda, the transaction is showing as canceled, the btc is missing (my wallet now showing 0) and looking at the blockchain, some hours after they were received, they were transferred to another wallet. I have contacted Bitpanda support via 2 support tickets and an email. Strangely, the two support tickets were merged with each other and a ticket from another customer (professional I know) but no reply was given. It has now been well over 24 hours since my money went missing. Has anyone else had problems with Bitpanda?
